今日、大相撲秋場所が終わりました。

(Today, the September grand sumo tournament ended.)

 

優勝は横綱の白鵬。

(The yokozuna Hakuho won.)

 

白鵬（はくほう）という名前の漢字は

白→神聖な色、鵬→風に乗って羽ばたく大きな鳥、という意味です。

（His ring name means...

白→holy color,　鵬→a big bird flapping in the gerat wind.）

 

お相撲さんの「しこ名」には縁起のいい漢字、

強さやスケールの大きさがイメージできる漢字がよく使われています。

(sumo wrestlers' ring names often consist of

kanji that has lucky meaning or strong image.)

 

今、幕内力士の中には「富士」の字がつく力士が4人。

 (Now,in the makuuchi [senior] division, there are 4 wrestlers who have "Fuji" in their names.)

 

もちろん日本一の山、富士山にちなんだ名前ですね。

(Of course it is from Mt.Fuji.)

 

鶴竜（かくりゅう）というお相撲さんの名前は鶴（つる）と竜（ドラゴン）。

(The name "Kakuryu" means 鶴→crane, 竜→dragon.)

 

おめでたい鳥と強い動物の組み合わせですね。

(The combination of lucky bird and strong animal.)

 

翔天狼（しょうてんろう）という名前も強そう！

 (The name "Shoutenro" also sounds strong!)

 

だって、翔天→天を翔ける、狼→おおかみ　ですよ！

Ears on the wall.

There are a lot of idioms using a part of the body.
Today, I’m introducing you some idioms with “ears”.
Ear is "耳 (mimi)" in Japanese.

①　耳が遠い　(mimi ga tooi)
"The ears are far."
This means...
"cannot hear very well."

「私の父は耳が遠い。」
(watashi no chichi wa mimi ga tooi.)

"My father doesn't hear very well."


②　壁に耳　(kabe ni mimi)
"The ears on the wall."
This means...
"It's difficult to have a "secret meeting". There could be someone who is listening to what you are talking about behind the wall."

「壁に耳だから、ここでその話はやめよう。車の中で話さない？」
(kabe ni mimi dakara kokode sono hanashi wa yameyoo. kuruma no nakade hanasanai?)

"Someone might listen to our talking, maybe we shouldn't talk about it here. How about talking in my car?"


③　耳が痛い　(mimi ga itai)
"My ears are hurts."
This means...
"Someone's indication is very accurate and it's just what I have to improve."

「お酒の飲みすぎは健康に悪いよ。」
(osake no nomisugi wa kenkoo ni warui yo.)
「耳が痛いよ・・・。」
(mimi ga itai yo...)

"Drinking a lot is bad for your health."
"Yeah... I agree with your idea. That's exactly talking about me..."

きょうは、　あさがお　について　かきます！

(I will write about morning glory, today.)

 

きんじょの　あさがおです。

(This is morning glory blooming in the neighbourhood.)

(It is beautiful, isn't it?)

 

うえを　みると・・・。

(If you look up....)

 

 

うえにも、あさがお・・・。

(They are there too.)

(..oh?)

 

あさがおは、き　ではありませんが・・・、

(Morning glory is not a tree, but...)

 

えだが　みえます。

(we can see a branch.)

 

ぜんたいを　みると・・・、

(If you look at the whole picture of it...)

 

 

あさがおが、　やねまで！！

(The morning groly reach the top of the house!)

 

でも、　あさがおの　きせつも　もう　おわりです。

(but the season of morning groly neary ends now)

 

これから、あついひも　なさそうですね。

(Seems we do not have hot and humid days anymore.)

respect for the aged day holiday

みなさん、こんばんは！

(good evening, everyone!)

 

今日は、敬老の日でした。

kyou wa keirou no hi deshita.

(Today, it was respect-for-the-aged Day Holiday!)

 

社会のためにがんばってきた高齢者の方々に感謝する日です。

shakai no tame ni ganbatte kita koureisha no katagata ni kansha suru hi desu.

(This is the day that we thank aged people who worked very hard to make our present society.)

 

うちは、おばあちゃんとケーキを食べました！

ushi wa obaachan to keeki o tabemashita.

(My family ate a cake with my grand mother!)

 

・・・しかし、なぜ、9月に感謝？

...shikashi, naze 9gatsu ni kansha?

(...So, why do we thank in September?)

 

色々な説がありますが、

iroirona setsu ga arimasu ga,

(there are many different opinions and views about the reason,)

 

一説には、お年寄りや孤児のために

issetsu niwa, otoshiyori ya koji no tameni,

(but one theory goes as follows. For the elderly people and orphans,)

 

福祉施設のようなものが最初に作られたのが、

fukushi-shisetsu no youna mono ga saisho ni tsukurareta noga,

(the first welfare facilitie in Japan was made)

 

723年9月15日だったと言われています。

9gatsu 15nichi datta to iwarete imasu.

(on the 15th of September, in 723.)

 

・・・今から、1290年前・・・。

ima kara 1290nen mae

(... it is 1290 yeas ago...)

 

そのころの平均寿命は、30歳前後・・・。

sono koro no heikin jumyou wa 30sai zengo

(The avarage life span of the Japanese back then was around 30 years...)

 

・・・つまり、そのころの「お年寄り」って、28歳とか、29歳とか・・・。

(which means that the elderly people then was 28 years old, 29 years old...)



 

え？私、とっくに過ぎてる・・・。変な感じです。笑

Answer key：

①　イ(person) + 賞 (prize, award) = 償 (compensate, recompense)
　　Do we have to compensate when we win a prize!? 

②　イ(person) + 憂 (anxious) = 優 (kind, gentle)
　　We can be kind because we feel anxious?

③　イ(person) + 夢 (dream) = 儚 (empty, fragile, frail)
　　Having a dream is empty… (T T)

みなさん、こんばんは！

今日見かけた素敵なピンク色の自転車。

(this is the nice pink bike I saw today.)

 

 

 

日本の自転車は、形が違うって本当ですか？

私は、この形じゃないと、乗れないと思いますが・・・。

お母さんたちの自転車、ときどき、子供のいすも付きます。
