October and Olympic...

あっという間に、10月ですね。

（あっというまに　１０がつ　ですね）

Time flies, it is already October!

 

10月には、「体育の日」という祝日があります。

（１０がつには、「たいいくの　ひ」　という　しゅくじつが　あります）

「体育の日」は、今は、10月の第二月曜日ですが、

（「たいいくの　ひ」　は、いまは、１０がつの　だいに　げつようびです　が）

元々は、10月10日でした。

（もともとは、１０がつ　とおか　でした）

 

In October, there is a national holiday called "Health and Sports Day".
"Health and Sports Day" is the second Monday in October now,
but it was originally set on October 10th.

 

 

 

10月10日は、1964年東京オリンピックの開会式が行われた日です。

（１０がつ　とおかは、１９６４ねん　とうきょう　おりんぴっくの　かいかいしきが　おこなわれた　ひ　です）

1年の中で、最も晴れる確率が高い日なので、その日が選ばれました。

（１ねんの　なかで、もっとも　はれる　かくりつが　たかい　ひ　なので、そのひ　が　えらばれました）

実際に、64年の開会式は、前日まで悪天候だったにもかかわらず、

（じっさいに、６４ねんの　かいかいしきは、ぜんじつまで　あくてんこうだった　にもかかわらず）

きれいな晴天になったそうで、今でも晴れる日が多いです。

（きれいな　せいてんに　なったそうで、いまでも　はれる　ひ　が　おおいそうです）

 

October 10th is the day that we had 1964 Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony.
This day was chosen because the probability of its becoming a sunny day

was (and still is) the highest among 365days.
We actually had a beautiful clear sky in 1964, too
even though cloudy and rainy days went on until the day before.
