Harvest Moon

 

十五夜は、月に関係する行事で、日本で広く知られています。
 じゅうごや　は、つき　に　かんする　ぎょうじ　で、にほん　で　ひろく　しられて　います。
Jugoya is an event related to the moon and widely known in Japan.


十五夜は、秋の旧暦における１５番目の夜という意味です。
じゅうごや　は、あき　の　きゅうれき　に　おける　じゅうごばんめ　の　よる　という　いみ　です。
Jugoya means the fifteenth night in the old calendar in autumn.


今年の十五夜の日は、今の暦で、１０月１日です。
ことし　の　じゅうごや　の　ひ　は、いま　の　こよみ　で、じゅうがつ　ついたち　です。
The date of Jugoya, this year is Oct. 1st in the present calendar.


天候が許せば、十五夜の夜に、満月を楽しめるかもしれません。
てんこう　が　ゆるせば、じゅうごや　の　よる　に、まんげつ　を　たのしめる　かもしれません。
Weather permitting, we may be able to enjoy watching a full moon on
the night of Jugoya.


満月を見ることを「月見」または、「お月見」と言います。
まんげつ　を　みる　こと　を　「つきみ」　または、「おつきみ」　と　いいます。
Watching a full moon is called “tsukimi” or “otsukimi”.


十五夜には、日本のパンパスグラスであるすすきで作った装飾品を飾り、米でできた丸いおもちである月見団子を食べます。
じゅうごや　には、にほん　の　ぱんぱすぐらす　である　すすき　で　つくった　そうしょくひん　を　かざり、こめ　で　できた　まるい　おもちである　つきみだんこ　を　たべます。
At Jugoya, we display decorations made from susuki, Japanese pampas
grass and eat tsukimi dango which are round rice dumpling cakes.

すすきは、稲を表し、豊作のシンボルです。
すすき　は、いね　を　あらわし、ほうさく　の　しんぼる　です。
 Susuki represents rice plants and is a symbol of good crops.


月見団子は、満月を表しています。
つきみだんご　は、　まんげつ　を　あらわしています。
Tsukimi dango represents the full moon.


月見という言葉は、「月見うどん」という有名な麺料理の名前にも使われています。
つきみ　という　ことば　は、「つきみうどん」　という　ゆうめいな　めんりょうり　の　なまえ　に　も　つかわれています。
The word,tsukimi is also used in “tsukimi udon” which is the name of a
famous noodle dish.


月見うどんは、うどんの麺の上にのっている生卵が特徴で、卵が月を表しています。
つきみうどん　は、　うどん　の　めん　の　うえ　に　のっている　なまたまご　が　とくちょう　で、　たまご　が　つき　を　あらわしています。
 Tsukimi Udon features a raw egg on top of udon noodles and the egg
represents the moon.
