猫のハンプティダンプティ。クールな顔が素敵でしょ？

(Mr. Humpty Dumpty, the cat. His cool face is attractive, isn't it?)

 

駅までの道で、毎日会います。

(I see him everyday on the way to the station.)

 

この猫は、地域猫です。飼い猫じゃありません。

(He is a communally owned cat, does not belong to a particular person.)

 

カットされた耳が、見えるでしょ？

(You see, one of his ears has been cut)

 

 

彼は、いつも塀の上にいます。だから、ハンプティダンプティ。

ハンプティダンプティが座っているのは、「wall」ですが、

(the thing that Humpty Dumpty is sitting on is "wall"...)

 

日本語で、「wall」には、「塀」と「壁」があります。

(in Japanese, we have "HEI" and "KABE" for the word "wall".)

 

「壁」は、家の中にある「wall」で、「塀」は家の外を囲う「wall」です。

(KABE is the wall inside a house, and the wall surrounding a house is HEI.)

 

・・・二つは、私にとって全然違うけど、英語で同じ・・・。

(They are very different things to me, but are the same thing in Engilsh...)

子供って、時々機嫌を損ね、

(When children get in a bad mood,)

 

全てに対して「いやだ！」と言ったりします・・・。

(they could say "NO!" to everything...)

鬼から電話！

(A phone call from devil!)

 

本当に鬼から電話がかかってきます。

(You actually get a phone call from the devil!)

 

電話に出ると、「もしもし、赤鬼です。」と声がして・・・。

「え！またお母さんの言うことを聞かない？今から行きます！」と言う。

日本では、暑い日が続いています。

(In Japan, we are still having hot and humid days..)

 

それで、今日、これを買いました。

(So I bought this today.)

 

 

これは、ローソンのアイスです。

(This is a coffee-flavored shaved ice from Lawson, the convenience store)

 

　

 

上にクリームがあります。

(We have creme and chocolate on top)

 

このアイスを買うとき、レジで、店員が「温めますか」と聞きます。

(When you buy this ice, shop assistant would ask you "Shall I warm this up?")

 

私は、「いいえ」と言いました。

(I said ”No, thank you".)

 

今、食べることができません。固いです。

(I cannot eat this as it is very hard now.)

 

それで、家の電子レンジで温めました。

(So, I used the microwave to warm it up at home.)

(...Mm??)

 

 

溶けました。

(Melted! Nicely!)

 

 

今、食べられます。

(Now I can eat this.)

 

ほどよくアイスです！！（笑）

今日は、送り盆でした。

(Today, it was OKURI-BON day)

 

日本の仏教で、8月13日から16日は、大抵お盆です。

(In Japan, Aug 13th to 16th is usually OBON for Buddists.)

 

多くの人は、お盆を家族と一緒に過ごして、先祖を思います。

(Many people spend OBON period with their family and think of ancestors.)

 

仏教では、8月13日、死者の魂が帰ってくると言われています。

(In Buddism, the spirits of the dead are said to return on 13th of August.)

 

だから、13日を、迎え盆と言います。

(So Buddists call 13th "MUKAE-BON", the Welcoming back day.)

 

そして、魂は、8月16日に、再び行ってしまいます。

(and the spirits goes back again on 16th of Aug)

 

だから、16日は、送り盆と呼ばれます。

(so, 16th is called "OKURI-BON", the seeing off day.)

 

お盆には、早く帰れるように、キュウリの馬と、

(For OBON, people make cucumber horse so that the ancestors can come back home on 13th quickly,

 

ゆっくり戻れるように、なすの牛を作ります。

and eggplant cow so that they can go back again on 16th slowly.)

 

おじいちゃん、先祖様、また来年ね！

(Grandpa, my ancestors, I will see you all again in next OBON!)
